ATMs were just starting to appear at banks and credit union branches, but were slow to catch on. Who would ever trust an impersonal machine to withdrawal cash when a smiling teller was just inside the branch?  Things changed when the fledgling Exchange network linked a few ATMs internationally – including Vancity’s. Not surprisingly, the idea of withdrawing cash from just about anywhere caught on fast, and now THE EXCHANGE® network is one of the largest ATM networks in the world with 2000 ATMs in Canada (and thousands more internationally.)
